Week #2 Thursday Thirteen Week #2

Thirteen Things about MY NAME

1. My Army officer father heard it while serving in Japan.
2. It is really an adjective.
3. It is used to address someone who is very dear or special to you.
4. My mother received a telegram from my dad telling her to name the young lady Cheya.
5. My mother didn't know how to pronounce it, so she had to spell it to the hospital personnel
for my birth certificate. (My dad was in Japan when I was born.)
6. My school teachers could never pronounce it.
7. Other kids would call me Cheeta, Chela, Sha-a, Shee-a, etc.
8. Now that there are Chia pets I just tell people it's pronounced like that, even though it is spelled different.
9. An ex-boyfriend named his daughter after me.
10. A high school friend, also a boy, used to sing, "Cheer up Cheya Jean, Oh what can it mean to a daydream believer and a homecoming queen." Used to make me laugh.
11. My middle name is Rae.
12. Rae is my mother's name.
13. My oldest daughter also has the middle name Rae. We couldn't figure anything to go with Cheya.

'My Army officer father heard it while serving in Japan'

Dearest Booklogged,

The above line sounds like something straight out of a Cary Grant or Gregory Peck film.

Surely, you aren't a character from somewhere in a delightful novel, are you...

warmest wishes

I should be calling you Cheya or In Season.

Susan, If I am a character in a novel, it's not so delightful right now. But we all know it will end well, don't we???? I hesitated to write such a personal Thursday 13 - want to maintain a little aninimity, but it was a fun idea. Please continue to call me booklogged. I like that for the internet.

Rasbre, Welcome to my blog. I left a couple of comments on yours. How did you find me since I haven't actually registered as a Thursday 13er as yet?

Hello booklogged!

That's cool you let us know 13 things about your name! I've always loved your name - from the first day I heard it - but I didn't know it was Japanese! To me it always sounded like it could have its origins in Hebrew. In India, a popular name is Chhaya, which means shade.

Thanks for sharing. I've enjoyed this and learned much.

Old Yeller????? I like the Alyson Wonderland, but I'd never heard it before.
This thirteen idea sounds fun, but it is going to have to wait until I figure out my new book blog. By the way, Book, thanks for the "encouraging" e-mail.

I think it's funny that your ex-boyfriend's daughter turns out to be my daughter-in-law's cousin.

At least you have a middle name. Our parents couldn't even figure one out for me. Maybe by the time you have six kids, you've run out of ideas. Or they used all their creativity on Shaneen.

Alyson, I really love Wowie! for your nickname. It fits you well and it's so cute when your little 2-yr-old niece calls you that. TopGun Alyson was a fun one while you were in the Air Force.

To think, lotus, that your are in India now and maybe visiting with someone named Chhaya! It's meaning, shade, has pleasant connotations. Relief, cool air and ground under a tree, serenity, etc. I'd like to add that to my name's meaning and come up with 'someone who is dear or special, who can offer solace from the heat'. What do you think? It may not be kosier to have your name mean whatever you want it to, but what the heck!, maybe it will encourage me to incorporate those attributes into my real life.

Framed, it always amazes me that the world is so small. One almosts needs a word map to catch the relationship between your son and D's daughter! About your middle name - have you suffered a great deal all these years from not having one? If so . . .maybe you should seek professional help. You know I'm teasing, right? It is perplexing that you are the only one of seven children without a middle name. Have you ever thought about what you would like for your middle name? I'd like to hear your choices.

The most beautiful sound I ever heard
All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word
Cheya
I just met a girl named Cheya
And suddenly that name
Will never be the same
To me
Cheya
I just kissed a girl named Cheya
And suddenly I found
How wonderful a sound
Can be
Cheya
Say it loud and there's music playing
Say it soft and it's almost like praying
Cheya
I'll never stop saying
Cheya
Cheya, Cheya...
Cheya
Say it loud and there's music playing
Say it soft and it's almost like praying
Cheya
I'll never stop saying
Cheya
The most beautiful sound I ever heard
Cheya

Shaneen, too bad you weren't in the military. They'd have assigned you a middle name NMN (pronounced numbn')

Shaneen Numbn' M....

Has a nice ring to it.
