Big Chocolate Disappointment

I didn't think I would ever use the words chocolate and disappointment in the same sentence, but that describes my feelings after visiting the renown Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe in Portland. I skipped dessert at Papa Hayden's, which boast 22 scrumptious looking desserts, in favor of a mint chocolate truffle from Moonstruck. Guess what, they didn't have one mint chocolate truffle - not in milk chocolate, white chocolate, or my preference, dark chocolate. I couldn't believe it. That is just wrong! They said it's not the season and that they would have some around Christmas. I settled on 2 pieces of chocolate that cost $2.50 each. Neither was anything to get excited about.

In all fairness, I did not try their famous root beer flavored milkshake made from white chocolate ice cream or their hot cocoa which is supposed to be delicious, so I can't say it they would have lived up to their promise or not. All I can say is that I won't be going back. Instead I will look for a Macy's and buy a box of their impossible-to-beat Frango mints.

What a bummer. I'm sorry to hear that they didn't have mint chocolates...who would've thought that there was a season for mint chocolates?

Oh! That's too bad! I agree with Aly, there's a season for mint chocolates??? Crazy! Too bad the other chocolates weren't fabulous; what were they? I wish I could remember the french pasty shop my mission companion took me to when I was there this past February - it was divine! Mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm.

I know, Alyson. It's simply crazy.

Julie, the rule is 'if you can't remember it, don't tell me about it'!
:D We did find our little Paddy's Pub and Grill with it's delicious lemonade.

Are you serious? The root beer float sounds divine. Mint chocolate truffle, pfaw.

Glad you found the restaurant and enjoyed the lemonade. So it was Paddy's and not Kell's??

What a delight to meet you and your husband and Mom yesterday. I love having faces to go with the names. Hope your Mom is feeling less worried about the 'potential axe murderers' you might be meeting online.

I am with you on the Frango Mints (especially in dark chocolate)! I love peppermind and chocolate together, like Starbucks Peppermint Mocha lattes or peppermint ice cream with hot fudge. I wonder if the first time you had a Frango Mint was when you visited Chicago a few summers ago. We were so worried that Macy's would abolish them after they bought Marshall Fields!

Framed, I might have tried the root beer float shake if I hadn't just finished a pleasant dinner.

SuziQ, it was Paddy's. Thank goodness Candleman recognized the right spot. The lemonade was wonderful and the food as good, too. I highly recommend it. Loved meeting you, too. Mom thought you were a real sweetheart - no axe murderer!

Bellezza, it was your suggestion that led us to the best chocolate mint truffles. We haven't had any since our visit last summer to Chicago. After visiting Moonlight, we made a stop at Macy's in Portland. Thank-you for that initial recommendation.
